With the ordination of 26 new priests, the total number of priests in the Archdiocese of Seoul, South Korea, has reached 1,000. The Archdiocese of Seoul is the metropolitan see overseeing 15 dioceses across South Korea. The Catholic Church in South Korea has a unique history, as the faith was not introduced by missionaries but by laypeople. Driven by a deep thirst for knowledge of the One True God, they traveled to China, where they acquired Christian literature. Despite intense persecution, the Christian community in the region grew. In 1831, Korea was established as a distinct vicariate apostolic, marking the formal recognition of its expanding Catholic community.
